Introduction

1. The International and Inter-Regional Law Department is responsible for:
  1. Preparing legal opinions in the area of International and Inter-Regional Law;
  2. Participating in the negotiation process of international treaties and inter-regional agreements;
  3. Coordinating the handling of matters relating to the legal cooperation of the Macao SAR or the various public services and entities with other jurisdictions;
  4. Performing, within its competence, other tasks that may be determined and assigned by the superior.
2. The International and Inter-Regional Law Department comprises the following two divisions:
   1. Treaties Division that is responsible for, inter alia,:
  • Preparing legal opinions in the area of International and Inter-Regional Law;
  • Studying or supporting the preparation of required draft agreements for inter-regional cooperation;
  • Studying standards, recommendations or directives issued by international bodies applicable to the Macao SAR and following up their integration into the local legal system;
  • Preparing reports on international treaties and inter-regional agreements, as well as providing information requested by international organisations and by the respective parties to the agreements.

   2. International and Inter-Regional Affairs Division that is responsible for, inter alia,:
  • Participating or supporting the participation of other public services and entities in meetings of international or regional nature, as instructed by the superior;
  • Supporting activities relating to international and inter-regional legal cooperation;
  • Following up and monitoring the publication of international law instruments and inter-regional agreements;
  • Coordinating and supporting, as required, multi-sectoral actions in the field of international and inter-regional law.
